Empowering Holistic Well-being: School-Based Health Quality Initiative

Welcome to the comprehensive School-Based Health Quality Initiative, proudly presented by Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). This overarching initiative incorporates two specialized programs: the School Success Initiative and the dynamic GOAL Line after-school program. Rooted in integrated health, our mission is to foster holistic well-being for every student through school-Based support.

Our Holistic Mission:
The School-Based Health Quality Initiative is committed to providing a spectrum of school-Based mental health and preventative services, with a special emphasis on integrated health. This initiative, complemented by the engaging and impactful GOAL Line afterschool program, aims to proactively identify and address the needs of students who may be at risk of developing emotional or behavioral challenges due to familial or environmental conditions. Simultaneously, we strive to deliver universal prevention services to all students, preventing the onset of emotional and/or behavioral challenges.

2. GOAL Line Afterschool Program:
  • Holistic Development: Every student in the GOAL Line program experiences academic and socioemotional growth.
  • Building Scholars and Citizens: Our mission is to transform every participant into a better scholar, student, and citizen, contributing to their success in Detroit and beyond.
  • Aspiring for Excellence: The GOAL Line program aims to be one of the best afterschool programs in the country, fostering higher academic outcomes in the short and long term.
  • Positive Impact on Discipline: By design, the GOAL Line program contributes to reducing student disciplinary issues and concerns in schools across Detroit.

Integrated Health Focus:
Efforts to incorporate integrated health are at the core of our initiatives. Through the School-Based Health Quality Initiative, we aim to seamlessly integrate mental health services with physical health components, ensuring a comprehensive approach to well-being. Specifically, we focus on addressing the following risks factors:
  • Anger 
  • Depression / Anxiety 
  • Bullying 
  • Suicide Prevention 
  • Dating Violence 
  • Trauma 
  • Grief  
  • Substance Abuse 
  • School Violence 
  • Integrated Health
  • Other risks factors based on the specific student/school’s need
Program Funding and Management:
The School-Based Health Quality Initiative, including the GOAL Line program, is generously funded by Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWHIN) and efficiently managed through the Children’s Initiatives department.
 
Participation Requirements:
To engage in the School-Based Health Quality Initiative programs, please be aware of the following minimum requirements set by DWIHN:
  1. Distribute the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire to all students to determine their eligibility for Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 services.
  2. Provide psychoeducation on various mental health topics to teachers and school staff twice per year.
  3. Offer psychoeducation on various mental health topics to parents twice per year.
  4. Visit the GOAL Line section to get more information on their requirements.
